New Contest: The Fighter’s Starter Kit

This site wouldn’t be where it is if fighters and trainers didn’t support what we’re doing around here. Not only am I talking about the guys (and girl) that have sat down for interviews, but all the other fighters who have shared their knowledge of the fight game. And that doesn’t even count all the guys who have told me they read the site on the regular.

So as a thank you to all you girls and guys from the area who fight, we’ve put together a very special contest just for you. We’re calling it The Fighter’s Starter Kit, and it includes a t-shirt, a pair of board shorts and handwraps. All provided by our partners at Tattoo Fightwear.

This contest is open to all fighters professional or amateur and one winner will be chosen at random. We will accept entries up to midnight on April 4th, 2010 and a winner will be announced on April 5th. To enter email tattoo-contest@mamma-online.com. Include:

Mailing Address:
Shirt Size (sm, md, lrg, xl, xxl):
Waist (30″, 32″, 34″, 36″ or 38″):

Fighters & Trainers: Need Some Photos?

The last few weeks have been straight up bananas around the Philly fight scene. Two fights a week within driving distance. But with all the major local promoters coming down off their post fight high, there will be a short lull in action around the Mid-Atlantic Region. With that set-up, I come to you humbly to offer my photography services. In an effort to jump start the “find a new apartment” fund, I’m looking to book some photo shoots.

Things are Taking Shape

With the down time I’ve had the last two days, I’ve been doing a lot of work, some here on the site. Some elsewhere. I am continuing to follow the Rigglesman/Goldsby story, as that tale is far from told. I am also getting ready for three fight weekends in a row, now that NBF has been pushed back to next Saturday.

The site has not been abandoned. But, if you just can’t get enough, you can always follow the Twitter feed.

This Week in Mid-Atlantic MMA

RIE: Philly Biker Brawl. Photo by: Paul Miles
Our third live fight weekend is over, and we’re right back in the saddle. This weekend New Jersey is the place to be. Friday night, your truly will be in Edison getting an education in MMA officiating thanks to NJSACB’s Nick Lembo, and Asylum Fight League. I’ll be shadow judging the event, and to keep it on the up and up, I won’t be previewing the main event. You will get the bout sheet before the show, though. And you can expect the typical mediocre coverage on fight night.

Saturday keeps it going in the Garden State with New Breed Fighters, who have been on a bit of a hiatus. They’re in action from Resorts in Atlantic City. If your not throwing your money down on the craps table, the UFC is back on PPV after a quick flip off Saturday night’s TUF 10 Finale. UFC 107 has BJ Penn defending his belt against Diego Nightmare Sanchez from the FedEx Forum in Memphis Tennessee.

On the local front, I’m working with David Nelmark of the MMA Law Blog. David is an attorney from Des Moines, Iowa and covers the legal front of mixed martial arts. He and I will be discussing MMA in New York.

There’s also an ugly rumor around the internets that The Fight Nerd is coming to Philly. Cheesesteaks. Thats all I’m going to say.

And tomorrow we celebrate MAMMA’s 2 month anniversary. The 62nd caller will win a 1987 Lincoln Continental Mark VII. White with champaign interior. Trust me, its classy.

New Site is Almost Done (or: Come Back, I Miss You)

Last week Blogger ate the original MAMMA-Online layout. I hired my buddy Dr Octoroc to redo the site. It wasn’t under the best circumstances, some of you probably saw that the site was changing live. Not something I particularly like to do, because the daily visitor count went right to hell.

But after a week of struggling to get the site migrated to Bluehost, and to a WordPress backend, the site is, more or less, where it was a week and a half ago before Blogger had a stroke.

There’s nothing in the “About” page, but I’m back up to speed with updating. Which will be coming forthwith. PA Cage Fight 2 results will be up as soon as I can get a hold of them. We’ll be taking a look at Pain on Penn Street 2 and UFC: TUF Finale.

Also, keep an eye out as I’ll be posting an interview with Roxanne Modafferi. The interview was completed last week and we talk briefly about her last bout on Strikeforce: Fedor vs Rogers. We also talk about training in Boston and full sized Gundam mechas dotting Osaka. You’ll also learn a pretty handy Japanese phrase, because Roxy-chan, nihongono wakarimasu. Which, if I remember 8th grade Japanese correctly, either means Roxy speaks Japanese, or Roxy wasabi sauce Akahiro Gono. Could go either way.

I’ll be working on some more interviews, and hopefully some new photo sessions in the coming weeks. So tell your friends. MAMMA-Online, is back, bro.
