I needed a couple days away from MMA. This sport, with the personalities we deal with, and I only meekly include myself with fighters, trainers, businessmen and officials here, can be taxing sometimes. I’m not talking about anyone in particular, or anybody negatively. The fight game is by default a very alpha dominated pissing contest, and everybody needs to take a day off to cleanse the mechanism and wipe the slate before getting back into the dog fight of week in/week out mixed martial arts. So that’s what Sunday and Monday were. I needed to take a step back and take a deep breath, because I saw myself getting very burned out on the sport very quickly.

But fortunately, nothing too terribly exciting happened the last two days. At least nothing I’m aware of, so I bring you this as a gift of thanks for being able to reenter your internet consciousness. Paul Heyman continues to tease the MMA world.

We’ll be liveblogging tonight’s M-1 Global show from Bally’s in Atlantic City. Should go online somewhere between 6:30 and 7. M-1 is running their second show in the “Americas” edition of their international MMA tournament. Tonight we’ll get some non-tournament action, including the return of Aaron Meisner and live from San Jose, Fedor vs Fabricio Werdum from tonight’s Strikeforce show. Matrix Fights announced that WEC Featherweight Anthony Cheesesteak Morrison has been added to this Friday’s show. Morrison will fight The Ghost Nick Gonzalez.

Morrison was born and raised in Philadelphia and signed with the WEC on the back of an impressive win in Ring of Combat against Nick Lentz. He was billed as out of Virginia for his WEC bouts, but is back in Philly and training with Brad Daddis and ABC Gym‘s Fred Jenkins.

On the latest edition of HDNet’s Inside MMA, current Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez called out Philadelphia’s Eddie Alvarez, current Bellator champion. Melendez successfully defended his Strikeforce lightweight championship against Shinya Aoki in a fight that was much more exciting to talk about than watch. Alvarez’s last loss was to Aoki in 2008 for Dream.
