Another Interview with Brendan Barrett
[cincopa 10558554]
Friend of the program Brutal Brendan Barrett spent some time at Next Level in Oregon training for last weekend’s Ring of Combat fight with Joe Abouatta. Brendan won the fight via RNC in the second round snapping a losing streak. I talked to Brendan last week before the fight, but because this site isn’t my full time job, have not been able to get this online until now. Thanks to Brendan for the photos, which were all taken during his two weeks training in Oregon.

Ring of Combat XXVIII Official Results
While I was in Lancaster for Pennsylvania’s biggest regular show, New Jersey’s longest running pro promotion staged their 28th event. Ring of Combat XVIII took over the Tropicana Showroom on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City NJ. The show got through under my radar, and it really shouldn’t have. Some great fighters on the card including friend of the program Brendan Barrett who knuckled up in the heavyweight division for the first time. Two fights were scratched, most notably the Costa Phillipou, who’s in Vegas filming the 11th season of The Ultimate Fighter.
The following results are official as submitted by the NJSACB.

This Week in Mid-Atlantic MMA: The Day After Tomorrow Edition

See, I posted this because it snowed...a lot.
There’s an old saying, the best laid plans are not always the best plans to get you laid. Or something like that. I think it was in an Earnest Hemingway novel, or whatever. But as we all know, a nasty little weather front pushed through the region, dumping over two feet of snow in some parts of the Delaware Valley. Both local shows were postponed. PA Fighting Championships 2 was pushed back less than 24 hours, and jumped off yesterday as a 1PM matinee show in Harrisburg PA. New Breed Fighters played it a little more cautious, pushing their first show of 2010 one week. That show is now highlighted as the only relevant MMA action of the weekend. And as I Twitted on Friday, tickets labeled Feb 6th will be honored on the 13th.

Expo hangover got the best of me yesterday. This is going to be a relatively slow week in the region. There’s only one fight, and that’s up in Dover NJ with Evolution AMMA. Looks like a 16 fight card that might get pared down to a baker’s dozen. A lot of young, new fighters. Only one guy has more than 5 contests under his belt, and most fighters have one or two on their report card.
We’re also waiting on some big news out of Locked in the Cage regarding the main event for their next fight coming up in a few weeks. And I’m hearing some rumblings regarding the next Shogun show down in Baltimore.
