I want to take a second to send a big thank you to Roxy Modafferi for taking time out of training, fighting and recovering to put together the two best written pieces to appear on this little ape show. This is the second, and sadly, last entry in Roxy’s Fight Journal for her Moosin bout with Tara LaRosa. If you missed the fight, you missed what a lot of people are calling the Fight of the Year.
Take a look at Roxy’s photo journal here.
Kunioku and I arrived in Boston on Tuesday the 18th after a long boring flight. Wednesday, Kunioku and I found a Gold’s Gym and trained for a bit, followed by a shopping excursion. I bought new sneakers! In the evening, we went to the press conference, where I got to meet most of the main card, minus Tara. Where was she? Someone told me she hadn’t arrived, someone told me she just arrived and was tired. I was super bummed out. So Butterbean offered to do the stare-down with me. I made sure to flash my Happy Warrior fan at every opportunity. Man, Tim Sylvia is tall! And Butterbean is hilarious. And we met Matt Lee, who I knew from my time living in Boston. Matt said, “Hi, oh it’s Kunioku!” I remember from reading the sherdog profile that they’d fought before way back when. Kunioku was like, “What? Who?” He’d forgotten, but can you blame a guy not to remember a fight ten years ago, who has 64 professional fights under his belt? But I thought it was kind of funny.

Roxy Doin' Work
Friend of the program Roxanne Modafferi is preparing for a fight with Tara LaRosa on the Moosin 2: Gods of Martial Arts show in Worcester MA on May 21st. Roxy’s doing a little photo journal. Here in the first edition, she talks about training with Jewels veteran Celine Haga and top ranked pound for pounder Megumi Mega Megu Fujii.

“How long have you been training for this fight?” I paused in filling out the MA State registration form, and thought. “When do I not train
for a fight?” I penned in two months. With so much to learn and improve on, who has time to take off?

Shout out to Grindhouse MMA
First, a little review of the weekend. on Saturday, Daddis Fight Camps hosted a UFC 111 viewing party at their Philly gym on the corner of 17th and Washington Sts. There was a strong turn out, and watching the fights on the big screen with people that know what the hell’s going on in the cage is awesome. This may become a regular event, so if your in the city, drop in on Brad’s place and watch some ultimate fighting. On Sunday Brandt from MMA Opinion and I visited The Grindhouse, Jerry Bradley’s gym in Feasterville PA. We were there to do 2 photo shoots, one with the guys from Grindhouse, and one with MAMMA’s girls. Unfortunately, two of the girls decided we weren’t cool enough to hang out with. But we do want to send a lot of love to Sugako who came out and dealt with all our shenanigans for a couple hours. Look for some shots coming to you very soon.
That being said, let’s jump into it.
