If you’ve followed Mid-Atlantic MMA since last year (and God bless you, if you have), you may have noticed that events come in waves. Part of the “How to Not Lose Your Ass as a Promoter” eBook involves booking your shows about every 8 to 10 weeks. Any closer together and your don’t give yourself enough time to build the event. Any farther apart and you lose your fanbase’s extremely short attention span. And for some reason, promoters all want to book shows in the same month, so we’ll get very active months with every organization running a show, and then we’ll get months like July, where it seems like nobody wants to run a show.
That is with two distinct exceptions. We’ll start about two weeks from now up in North Jersey, which has suddenly become a hot spot for shows, with organizations like UCC, KAP and the entry-level amateur show, Evolution AMMA. To take another page out of the “How to Not Lose Your Ass” hand guide, I want to point out that MMA.tv has the event, with bout sheet listed, while Evolution’s own website has no mention of any event after the March date. So its very possible that this event won’t happen. Lesson to promoters: Make sure you maintain an accurate and up to date web presence, this includes your website, your event schedule on the site, and your Facebook and Twitter accounts.

According to Gracie Mag International, Dante Rivera will face Alexandre Vaca Moreno for the vacant (and new) UCC Welterweight title in October.
Rivera, who is a blackbelt BJJ player under Ricardo Almeida has been cornering for Almeida guys the last few months, but stepped back in the cage on Friday in the UCC 2 main event against John Cholish. Rivera won the encounter in the second round with a north/south choke.
In the other half of this unofficial tournament, Alexandre Vaca defeated Carlos Brooks with a late first round guillotine earning his 11th win and submission of the night honors. Alexandre fights out of Gabriel Napao Gonzaga‘s Team Link up in New England, and won the BJJ World Championships as a purple and brown belt. He also has his share of NAGA titles on his CV.
Doing some basic arithmetic, this fight could conceivably go down in Fight City USA (AKA: Atlantic City) at the Taj Mahal as part of the MMA & Extreme Sports Extravaganza (and if its called an extravaganza you know its serious business).

North Jersey upstart league Urban Combat Championship announced the line-up for their second show, Strikedown. At the head of the card is Dante Rivera (14-7) vs Ryan Contaldi (7-2). Dante is a mainstay cornering for Ricardo Almeida fighters in New Jersey events lately. But is coming off a loss to Herbert Whisper Goodman at New Breed Fighter‘s pro show in February. Dante is a UFC The Ultimate Fighter Season 7 veteran with Reality Fighting, IFL, ROC, and New Breed Fighters shows on his nine year long resume.

Scott Morgan’s New Breed Fighters will win the race to 30 next weekend when NBF and Resorts Hotel & Casino host back to back fight nights in what the promotion’s calling the ultimate MMA weekend. The company is planning 30 fights spread over two days beginning on Friday April 30 and concluding on Saturday May 1. Both shows happen at Resorts’ Superstar Theater, which is one of my favorite places to see fights (non-ECW Arena division).
From the NBF press release:

Thanks to the guys at Daddis Fight Camps for hosting a UFC 111 viewing party last night. I was able to break off from the bachelor party and catch the last two fights. Since I only saw Mir vs Carwin and Georges St-Pierre vs Dan Hardy, I really don’t know how the whole event went. But I do know that Rousimar Palhares was suspended 90 days by the NJSACB for not releasing his heel hook on Tomasz Drwal. Some people are saying since Palhares wouldn’t fight again in 3 months that the suspension should have been longer. What do you think? Is that a sufficient suspension or should Palhares be out for longer?
And for the first time since The Mid-Atlantic MMA Blog went online; the following UFC results are official as submitted by the NJSACB.
