The first fight scheduled for last night’s M-1 Global show was supposed to be Brian DeMuro vs Mike Winters at 170 pounds. DeMuro came in 6.4 pounds over the 171 allotment for welterweights and was penalized $500 plus an additional $140 if he were to win the fight. Last night about twenty minutes before the fights, Kevin The Garv Garvey told me that the fight was scratched. According to the official results which were emailed out by Nick Lembo and the NJSACB, DeMuro failed his pre-fight physical after complaining of injuries. He’s under medical suspension for a laundry list of tests and is now at jeopardy of missing his next fight, scheduled for April 17 with Asylum Fight League. DeMuro is also suspended until he pays Mike Winters the over weight fine. He also needs to have his ribs X-rayed, get clearance from a chest surgeon and a GI specialist. At 2-6 as a pro, with all those tests and a $500 fine hanging over his head, this could be the last we hear from Brian DeMuro.
That said, hit the jump for the official results from Saturday night’s M-1 Global: Selection Americas event.

I believe this is George Sheppard's cup, and Referee Keith Peterson grabbing it
Fight 1
Josh Smidt vs Colin Schrader
Smidt comes into the ring rocking a very serious deaddy bears tramp stamp tattoo. Schrader opens with a right hand, Smidt answers with a couple legs. Smidt ducks a right and drops into a guillotine. Schrader jumps guard and both guys land heavy on the mat. Smidt has no defense for the guillotine and taps at the thirty second mark.

Fight 2
Rami Ibrahim vs Lennox Chance
Round 1
Second fight up is Rami The Golden Boy Ibrahim, billed as out of Philadelphia via Kuwait against Varner Combat Academy product Lennox Chance. This fight comes in at a 130 pound catchweight. Ibrahim one of five fighters to come in over weight. Looks incredibly relaxed with his hands up on the ring ropes before the fight. Chance pushes early looking for the Street Fighter first attack bonus. Chance grabs a kick attempt and falls into half guard. Rami gripping tight while Chance jumps into mount. Ibrahim has Chance’s arms tied up, so Chance can’t do anything. Referee Peterson rope breaks and gives Chance the same position. The two switch each other a couple times, but no offense from either. Chance works for a guillotine from bottom and the two stand when Rami breaks the choke. Very aggressive attack from Chance who trips into half and quickly transitions to mount. Chance works ground and pound from mount and Rami rolls and turtles. Lennox looks for another RNC from the back but might be riding too high. Chance sinks it and stretches him out, then gets the tap in the first round.

The M-1 Global: Selection tournament comes to Bally’s Casino in Atlantic City NJ this weekend. The event, to be held in a ring, will feature 16 fighters competing in the middleweight, welterweight and lightweight tournaments, along with three non-tournament bouts. Locked in the Cage‘s matchmaker Fran Evans served as matchmaker for M-1 and has put together a pretty strong card. This is night one of the international tournament to decide Team America for the 3rd edition of the global team-based competition which plays out less like the World Cup and more like the Champions League. Not the best each country can produce, but good enough to be a great show. The Mid-Atlantic MMA Blog will be in the building, look for live tweets coming to you on fight night.

Shout out to Grindhouse MMA
First, a little review of the weekend. on Saturday, Daddis Fight Camps hosted a UFC 111 viewing party at their Philly gym on the corner of 17th and Washington Sts. There was a strong turn out, and watching the fights on the big screen with people that know what the hell’s going on in the cage is awesome. This may become a regular event, so if your in the city, drop in on Brad’s place and watch some ultimate fighting. On Sunday Brandt from MMA Opinion and I visited The Grindhouse, Jerry Bradley’s gym in Feasterville PA. We were there to do 2 photo shoots, one with the guys from Grindhouse, and one with MAMMA’s girls. Unfortunately, two of the girls decided we weren’t cool enough to hang out with. But we do want to send a lot of love to Sugako who came out and dealt with all our shenanigans for a couple hours. Look for some shots coming to you very soon.
That being said, let’s jump into it.

Sideco Honor to co-main M-1 Global in Atlantic City
I’m still trying to confirm some information, but it appears that the April 3rd New Breed Fighters show at Resorts Hotel & Casino has been replaced by an M-1 Global show at Bally’s.
