Easton’s First Title Defense at UWC 8 This Weekend

Mike Easton will defend his UWC Bantamweight title for the first time since winning in the most controversial of fashions. Another one of Dave Holland’s victims, Jessie The Mountain Man Riggleman fights in the co-main event against New Mexico’s John The Magician Dodson out of Greg Jackson‘s camp. Also on this Saturday’s card is Jason David Frank, formerly the Green Power Ranger, and owner of Jesus Didn’t Tap.

UWC Takes Steps to Avoid Gong Show 2

I’ve told fighters that I wouldn’t drive through Virginia to go fight in North Carolina, that’s how deep my hatred of Dave Holland (who runs MMA for the VDPOR, Virginia’s commission) goes. Virginia just can’t get through an event without some sort of scoring, judging or timekeeping problem. That made me very nervous when I heard UWC planned on returning to the Patriot Center in Fairfax VA for their 8th show on May 22nd. But, I recently received an email from the UWC confirming that all officials will be brought in from out of state. This is a good thing. So far only two fights have been announced, Mike Easton vs Ryan Diaz and Jessie Riggleman vs John Dodson. I have been promised top-flight regional talent on the balance of this card.

Ring of Combat 29 After Action Report

Okay, here’s the deal. Between getting food with Jim Genia, getting my laptop hijacked by Laura Celeste and taking pictures with Brendan Barrett (and sitting right behind a GFL cameraman) I missed most of last night’s Ring of Combat show. But, as much as it pains me to say this as a die hard Pennsylvanian, New Jersey knows how to party. ROC (as with the state’s other premier MMA promotions) brings in outstanding fans for their fights. Not once did I hear “stand ‘em up” when a BJJ fighter was working hard to pass to side control. The fans knew the fighters, had their horses and let the fighters know who they were behind. Being a Philly sports fan I drank in the hate I felt flowing down to the cage when Demetrius Richards was introduced.

For more wall-to-wall coverage, and some good laughs, make sure you hit Jim Genia’s blog. He was the only one of us on press row with any view of the cage. He’s also a ninja about finding some food. I’m hearing that the GoFightLive stream went down after five fights. If you bought the PPV, I am almost positive that GFL will refund your money. It was a known server side issue. Hopefully last night’s liveblog came in handy for those of you trying to follow along at home.

These results are official as submitted by the NJSACB (and directly copy/pasted from an email generated by the commission).

Ring of Combat XXIX Live Blog

Thanks to unsecured Tropicana wireless networks, we’ll be able to cover the 29th edition of Ring of Combat live from press row. Tonight’s show is 14 fights, all professionals. First five bouts are 2 x 4 minute rounds (with a 4 minute over time in case of tie). First fighters in the gate: Charlie Joseph from (dramatic throat clear) Team Lotus and the Fighting Monkeys, who I’m pretty sure toured with Bill Haley and the Comets back in ’56. Joseph will face Ariel Sepulveda from Carmine Zocchi’s camp.

Ring of Combat XXIX Weigh-in Results

I really thought I posted this bout sheet, which is proof that I’m not getting enough sleep at night. Anyway, quickly so I can go to bed. Ring of Combat will be in Atlantic City tomorrow night.
