They say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. That may be the case in Mid-Atlantic MMA. February was an absolute boon month for the sport with 9 regional fight shows. All the major players were in action, with two companies running two shows each. It was almost ludicrous how much action there was for fight fans in February. And shame on you if you didn’t get out to a show this month. No excuses.
March throttles back a little bit. But not much. If your willing to drive a little bit, there are six shows in the region to choose from. The action starts this weekend in the shadows of NYC as Evolution AMMA run their second show, this time in Raway NJ. Evolution debuted last month and features young, rookie fighters. 17 fighters on the 16 fight card will be making their debuts (with some fights still not filled). Five more will be making their sophomore appearance. Anchoring the fight will be Tajuddin Abdul-Hakim (5-1) who’s holding belts in both Asylum and KAPMMA versus Rustam Chsiev (debut) in a non-title fight.
Asylum Fight League is on the schedule for next weekend in Philly at an address that looks eerily similar to that of The Blue Horizon. But there’s no card on MMA.tv, and there’s nothing on AFL or the Blue Horizon’s site about the show. Stay tuned.
If your in Pittsburgh, Valley Fight League‘s running their 25th show in Cheswick. Congratulations to VFL for reaching that milestone.
March ends with back to back shows. Cage Fight 4 in Scranton and Shogun 2 in Baltimore. I’m hoping Cage Fight can put together a better main event then Shogun returns to Baltimore after a wildly successful debut last fall. In what I’m hearing will be the main event, 22 year old Jim Kid Havok Hettes (4-0) takes on 40 year old Binky Jones. To put it in perspective. Binky was old enough to drive, vote, get drafted, get married, play blackjack in Atlantic City, and drink in Canada when Hettes was born. Some fights are styles clashes, this may be a generation clash. Binky did break a 2 fight losing skid at the first Shogun event in October.
As far as MAMMA-Online.com goes. I just want to take a quick second and thank all the fans, fighters, trainers and officials who have told me you read the site. I have never made it a secret that I do this site to continue scoring cage side seats for events. But for those otherwise very expensive seats, I do my best to help you guys, the fighters, coaches and officials, showcase the high level of skill and professionalism that is a trademark of a Mid-Atlantic MMA show. I don’t have a “MMA saved my life” story, but I will say that I am very thankful for the friends I’ve made in the fight game since this site went online.
