This Week in Mid-Atlantic MMA: The Day After Tomorrow Edition

See, I posted this because it snowed...a lot.
There’s an old saying, the best laid plans are not always the best plans to get you laid. Or something like that. I think it was in an Earnest Hemingway novel, or whatever. But as we all know, a nasty little weather front pushed through the region, dumping over two feet of snow in some parts of the Delaware Valley. Both local shows were postponed. PA Fighting Championships 2 was pushed back less than 24 hours, and jumped off yesterday as a 1PM matinee show in Harrisburg PA. New Breed Fighters played it a little more cautious, pushing their first show of 2010 one week. That show is now highlighted as the only relevant MMA action of the weekend. And as I Twitted on Friday, tickets labeled Feb 6th will be honored on the 13th.
Continuing our look back at the weekend, PennState alum Phil Davis won his UFC debut in a 3 round decision over Scranton PA’s Brian Stann. Fox Fight Game’s Mike Straka was apparently very impressed with Davis’ win, as he twice called out Jon Bones Jones on Phil’s behalf. It was announced that Jones, meanwhile, will face Brandon Vera to anchor the first UFC show on The Versus Network.
Friend of the program Brutal Brendan Barrett is in Oregon training with Nate Quarry (and eating well) in preparation for his Ring of Combat return on the 19th.
Speaking of Brendan, I’m hearing from a couple sources that Randy Smith is calling him out. Smith picked up his 11th win last weekend with a :31 victory over Michael Oldson. Oldson, who entered the fight as a 1-0 pro with one fight in two years, submitted due to strikes in thirty seconds.
Barrett is moving up to heavyweight and will try to snap a 4 fight losing streak in two weeks when he fights Joe Abouatta.
A little further down the calendar, I’ve been told there’s a 90% probability that UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar will be in town to corner Kole Conrad in his co-main event at Matrix Fights 1. Yes, I will have my video camera, and yes, I will make every attempt to get a couple words with the one time WWE World Champion, and former evangelist of the All Meat That You Kill Yourself Diet. (Works sort of like Adkins.)
Back to this week. Originally, this weekend was set to be dark. All promotions local and national were off. But with New Breed Fighters rescheduling to the 13th, we now have something to talk about.
