Brett Rogers Calls Out Overeem

Found on Bloody Elbow:

I want to fight soon, and I want to fight Alistar. I’m 100% healthy and took zero damage in the fight; so I’m ready to go right now. As I said Strikeforce is my home; I love Strikeforce and in my opinion Alistar holding the title belt is an insult to every fighter in this organization, every fan and to Scott Coker. Champions defend their titles. And either Scott strips him and real fighters battle for it; or I will take it off him the hard way.

Alistair Overeem (29-10) hasn’t fought in Strikeforce since November 2007. With the influx of new fans from the Fedor vs Rogers event, many fans don’t even know who the Strikeforce heavyweight champion is. Demolition Man has been competing overseas for Dream, Shooto and K-1 since ’07 and really hasn’t made any effort to come back and defend his title.

At some point Scott Coker has to realize that Strikeforce is a top flight promotion and needs to be their fighters’ priority. Cung Le, for better or worse, at least recognized this and vacated his belt.

Now, if Overeem’s next non K-1 tournament fight is in Strikeforce, should Rogers get a shot at the 265 belt? I don’t think anyone coming off a loss should fight for a title. That’s a personal preference of mine. So, if I’m booking for Coker, I put Fabricio Werdum on Overeem’s dance card. Werdum is now the unofficial #1 contender for Fedor’s WAMMA belt, and won a lot of fans with his win over Antonio Silva. Werdum already has a win over Overeem. If Werdum can go 2-0, that gives Rogers time to get back a win, which would line up Werdum vs Rogers for the Strikeforce belt. And whoever has the Strikeforce belt is presumably the next in line for Fedor.
