This Week in Mid-Atlantic MMA (The Last One for 2009)

Its the 52nd week of 2009, with some people recovering from Christmas, and most people pre-gaming for New Years, there is absolutely nothing going on in regional MMA. UFC 108 is this weekend, and don’t forget to enter our Pick’em Contest, but aside from that, its a big old goose egg on the calendar.
This last week of 2009 is going to be a great time to look back on everything that’s happened in mixed martial arts in 2009, particularly here in the Mid-Atlantic. This time last year MMA wasn’t legal in Pennsylvania, Maryland or Delaware. By the end of the year all three have gotten on the train, and Philadelphia hosted a UFC PPV with a title fight. Philadelphia and Baltimore both saw their first professional fights in 2009, and New Jersey continued to click along, laying down great show after great show from Atlantic City right up into the shadow of NYC.

UFC 108 Pick’em Contest

You’ve got one week left to enter our UFC 108 Pick’em Challenge, sponsored by our friends at Tattoo Fightwear.
Your challenge is to correctly pick the fights on the UFC 108: Evans vs Silva fight card. You get one point for correctly picking the winner. Bonus points can be earned by picking round and method of victory. You get a half point for picking the round the fight ends in, and another half point for picking method. Each fight is worth a total of 2 points. But, if you get any part of the prediction wrong, you lose all points for the fight. You can only enter once. So bring some strategy.
First place is a hoodie from the new range of gear and a Tattoo trucker cap.
Interview: Phil Davis is the UFC’s New Superman
Thanks to Chad Dubin at Lionheart Fighters, I was able to interview the UFC’s newest lightheavyweight, Phil Davis.
Q: Phil, first of all, congratulations on signing with the UFC. What have the last few days been like for you?
PD: The last few days have been cool a little stressful but cool. I’m at home with my family and I try not to be all about my work at home.
It seems like for the last six months or so, you’ve had a couple fights lined up that fell through. How frustrating has it been not being able to showcase while you were waiting for the call?
Its frustrating thinking you have a fight and training, then dealing with the disappointment of not having a date makes you not want to train as hard but I can do it because I don’t really know the game that well and its almost what I’ve expected up until now.
