Fight Spotlight: New Breed Fighters Light Heavyweight Title Fight

Dave McMahon (8-1) is set to defend his New Breed Fighters’ Light Heavyweight (174.9#) title against Elvin Rodriguez (4-3). The fight main events this weekend’s NBF event at Resorts Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City.

McMahon kickstarted a four fight win streak in December last year with a decisive :28 second submission victory over Dennis Martinez. Then in April of this year, he won New Breed’s 175 belt and avenged his last loss with a unanimous decision over Frank Mullin. That loss was a split decision.

Rodriguez, on the other hand, is 4-3 amateur with no quality wins. His last two fights, both losses, came at the hands of Christopher Wing who finished his amateur career 5-2.

Prediction: McMahon is a legitimate title holder at this level, but Rodriguez is not. McMahon’s pedigree (boxing at Joe Frazier’s gym, and training in the Militech system) should be too much for Rodriguez. Look for Dave McMahon to end his amateur career with a successful title defense.
